Payees

Coming from another specialized personal finance software I was shocked to find out that there is no dedicated "payee" column in the "wallet" section.

I would want to know how much I paid to certain company or person in a quarter, or a year. For me a payee is a must, not only the categories.

Also, every bank statement or transaction has a payee. You go to a restaurant, your statement shows the date, the name of the restaurant (payee) and the amount you paid or spend. It's only logical. Some banks even show categories.

I know that there are tags and notes but I don't think those would be adequate for payees. I also have notes in some transactions. And tags are more for organization (work, personal, etc).

Hope that payees could be implemented in Turbobulls.

Good one, and you have put your finger on something that is not a small gap. A category tells you what kind of spending it was, a payee tells you who got the money, and only one of those is answered today.

We are weighing payees up for Turbobulls 2.0, and your post is the reason they are on that list at all rather than filed under someday. It is the largest of the things you have raised, so I would rather tell you it is being seriously considered than give you a date I would then miss.

Until then a tag per payee will get you most of the way: the wallet filters will total up everything you have paid each one. You do have to create the tags first, so it is not effort-free, but it answers the question in the meantime.

I understand this is major but I think that payees are important part of any personal finance software. Hope you consider them carefully. Also with some sort of basic "payee management" (for example rename payees).

I came across Turbobulls when looking for a good replacement to my current setup which consists on two separate apps: one for expense management / budgeting and a different one for investing.

I have not been able to find an app that is very strong at doing both. I am hoping that Turbobulls could become the one. Look forward to the release of 2.0 and beyond.

Thank you, and noted: managing payees, like renaming them, belongs with it. Running two apps because nothing does both well is exactly the gap Turbobulls is built to close, so we’re taking that as a personal challenge. We’re really glad you’re here, and all the feedback you’ve given in such a short time is shaping the app.
