Confusion about workspaces

Help and problemsStarted by [deleted user]2 replies

Hi, I am new and started my trial. I have confusion of workspaces, can you explain more? Are they completely separated? Not sure if I understand.

I want to see my financial picture in one place but also arrange separate portfolios. For example I can do some trading and also invest long term. And I have different accounts. I would like to group some accounts in portfolios so I can see the split and performance of each group, but also see the full picture.

For example trading and see only that performance of my trading, but also long term and compare with benchmark and also the two groups together as the complete picture.

Is this possible?

Also using csv I get errors on importing some lines that don't have an asset. How can I do it? Another user has a thread for this, I also replied because it is same issue.

Welcome to the community, @trent, and thanks for asking. Workspaces confuse a lot of people at first, so you’re in good company.

The short answer: keep everything in one workspace. Workspaces are completely separate from each other. Each has its own data and its own encryption password, and nothing ever adds them together. They’re meant for money you never want to see side by side, like a parent’s finances you help with or a side business. Since you want your whole financial picture in one place, one workspace is exactly right for you.

And the good news is that you can already do what you describe. On the Portfolio page, filter by broker or by tag, and your metrics follow the filter, so you see the performance of just that group. Use “Save filter” to keep each one, say “Trading” and “Long term”, and switch between them in a click. Clear the filter and you’re back to the complete picture. To set it up: if trading and long-term investing sit in separate accounts, keep them as separate brokers. If they share one account, tag the transactions “Trading” and “Long term”.

Stay tuned, because this gets even better in Turbobulls 2.0, coming soon. The Portfolio page is redesigned around exactly this kind of view: filters and saved views sit right at the top, and your returns, the chart and the benchmark comparison all follow the filter. So comparing your long-term investing with a benchmark is one click away.

About the CSV errors: I’ve answered in @turbo’s thread, so the answer is in one place for everyone who hits it.
