Linking a price source deletes older prices, and uploading a file ends the link

On a custom asset, the Prices tab lets me either link a source through the Connector or upload a price file, but not both:

  • Linking a source replaces every price the asset already has ("365 prices from replace your 380"), including dates the source does not cover.
  • Uploading a file to a linked asset ends the link ("Saving ends the link… they no longer update on their own").

Sources often have less history than the asset. A free crypto API gives 365 days; some funds are only available from the date their series or symbol changed. In my case several funds held since 2011–2017 have source history only from 2018–2022. So I have to choose between a correct history and automatic updates.

**Feature request: **let both live together.

  • When linking, keep the existing prices on dates the source does not return (the source wins only on its own dates), or ask which to keep.
  • Allow uploading a file to a linked asset to fill older dates without ending the link.

Without this, the earliest-available-value approximation fills years of history with a single price, which distorts past performance and net worth.

You are right on both counts, and your case shows the problem well: a history from 2011 and a source from 2018 should not have to choose between being right and being current.

Two things we will look at:

    • Keeping your older prices when you link a source. Your own prices from before the source's first day would stay, and the source would take over from where its history starts.
    • Adding a price file to a linked asset without ending the link. The file would only fill the days the source does not have.

I will come back here when there is news.
